Gabinete de curiosidades Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales/Cabinet of Curiosities National Museum of Natural Sciences

Los Cuartos de Maravillas o Gabinetes de Curiosidades son el origen de los museos de ciencias naturales y se denominan así los lugares en los que durante la época de las grandes exploraciones y descubrimientos del siglo XVI y del siglo XVII, se coleccionaban y se presentaban una multitud de objetos raros o extraños que los exploradores encontraban en sus numerosos viajes.

Esta exposición propone un viaje a través del tiempo, en el que se puede sentir la fascinación de encontrarse, en el ambiente del Real Gabinete de Carlos III, con la gran diversidad de rocas, fósiles, insectos, moluscos, peces, anfibios, reptiles, aves, mamíferos… que se han conservado en sus colecciones.

Siéntete como un auténtico descubridor en el Gabinete de Curiosidades del Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales!!

The Rooms of Wonders and Curiosities Cabinets are the origin of natural science museums, and designate the places where during the time of the great explorations and discoveries of the sixteenth and seventeenth century, are collected and presented a multitude of objects odd or strange that the explorers were in his travels.

This exhibition offers a journey through time in which you can feel the fascination of being in the environment of the Royal Cabinet of Carlos III, with the great diversity of rocks, fossils, insects, molluscs, fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals ... that have been preserved in their collections.

Reviviendo la historia natural/Reviving the natural history

El diciembre de 1899, un investigador del Museo de Historia Natural de Nueva York, William Reed, encontró, bajo el subsuelo de Wyoming un gigantesco fémur de más de 1,5 metros. ¿De qué animal podía ser? Con ayuda de Andrew Carnegie emprendió un primer viaje con el objetivo de desenterrar el cuerpo, pero el viaje resultó un fracaso, al no hallar nada más que otro hueso. Pero no se rindieron...

¿Queréis saber como termina la historia? ¿Queréis ver una réplica del animal que descubrieron? ¿Os interesa conocer como la réplica del esqueleto que descubrieron Reed y Carnegie acabó en España? ¿Lo complicado que fue su montaje? 

A estas preguntas y a muchas más encontraréis respuesta en el Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, no os lo perdáis!!

In December 1899, a researcher at the Museum of Natural History in New York, William Reed, found under the basement of Wyoming a gigantic femur over 1.5 meters. What animal could be? With the help of Andrew Carnegie launched a first trip in order to disinter the body, but the trip was a failure, not finding anything more than another bone. But did not give up ...
