Los Cuartos de Maravillas o Gabinetes de Curiosidades son el origen de los museos de ciencias naturales y se denominan así los lugares en los que durante la época de las grandes exploraciones y descubrimientos del siglo XVI y del siglo XVII, se coleccionaban y se presentaban una multitud de objetos raros o extraños que los exploradores encontraban en sus numerosos viajes.
Esta exposición propone un viaje a través del tiempo, en el que se puede sentir la fascinación de encontrarse, en el ambiente del Real Gabinete de Carlos III, con la gran diversidad de rocas, fósiles, insectos, moluscos, peces, anfibios, reptiles, aves, mamíferos… que se han conservado en sus colecciones.
