La palabra “Astrolabio” significa “el que interpreta el cielo” y es un instrumento que permitió hasta el siglo XVIII, resolver cuestiones propias de la astronomía y la topografía.
El astrolabio era usado por los navegantes, astrónomos y científicos en general para localizar los astros y observar su movimiento, para determinar la hora local a partir de la latitud o, viceversa, para averiguar la latitud conociendo la hora.
